Haldimand Horticultural Society Update

To The Haldimand Press

HALDIMAND—Nine members from Haldimand Horticultural Society (HHS) attended the Ontario Horticulture Convention July 19 to 21, 2019, held at St. Clair College for the Arts in Windsor, Ontario.

The early-bird arrivals on the Thursday got to visit the most southern tip of Canada’s mainland and explore Point Pelee National Park. We learned about our Carolinian ecosystem, visited a nature shop, Anna’s Flowers, and Lakeside Park on the shores of Lake Erie. We finished the day off with a dinner buffet at Fox Glen Golf Club.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings were for dealing with regular business for the annual general meeting. After the business was taken care of, we had very knowledgeable and interesting speakers each day.

In the afternoon there were bus trips to beautiful gardens for those interested, or you could choose to stay and enjoy the available workshops on site. Friday evening was fun-filled, with the theme being The Rum Runner Era. Needless to say we had many flappers and gangsters present. A lot of fun was had by all.
