Suspicious vehicle investigation leads to several charges, including firearms, assault

JARVIS—On January 13, 2024 at approximately 3:50 p.m. the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 3 in Jarvis. The initial investigation determined that a pick-up truck parked at a business was occupied by two people who appeared to be sleeping. Police established the vehicle had been reported stolen and both individuals were taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that a sexual assault had occurred. A 40-year-old from London has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Imitation Firearm – Use While Committing Offence
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000
  • Sexual Assault
  • Assault With a Weapon
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (two counts)
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Bodily Harm or Death (two counts)
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Fail to comply With Probation Order
A 34-year-old from London has been charged with the following Criminal Code offence:
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5,000
Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on a later date.
