HAGERSVILLE/YORK — Congratulations to Kathryn McPherson of Hagersville for winning $175,000 with The Big Spin Instant game (Game #3107) and to Bonnie Buchanan of York, who matched the last six of seven Encore numbters in exact order in the April 14, 2023 PICK 2 draw to win $100,000!
Kathryn said she’s been an occasional lottery player for about 10 years. Her favourite games are Instant tickets, Lotto Max, and Lotto 6/49. She enjoys playing The Big Spin because it reminds her of The Price is Right.
The retail worker was at home when she noticed she won a Spin. She took her ticket to the store expecting to win a couple of dollars but was in disbelief when the lottery terminal froze.
Kathryn said she was so excited to go to the Prize Centre to spin The Big Spin Wheel.
“When I saw the wheel, I thought to myself, ‘Am I really here?’” she said. “It was hard to believe it was real.”
Kathryn said her heart was pounding with excitement as she watched the wheel spinning: “I saw it stop on $175,000 and I was thrilled – I’m surprised I didn’t pass out. What an incredible prize on a $5 ticket.”
Kathryn is planning a fun trip and will invest for her future.
“I’m going to be thoughtful and smart about my spending decisions,” she said.
“This whole experience has been amazing. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before,” she concluded.
The winning ticket was purchased at Hagersville Convenience on Main Street in Hagersville.

Bonnie, a retiree from the healthcare industry, says she’s been playing the lottery for 20 years.
“I always add Encore,” she shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her windfall.
“I was up early one morning checking my numbers online and when I saw the Encore numbers matched, I thought it couldn’t be real,” she explained. “My husband was still asleep, so I spent the next two hours telling my dog about all my big lottery plans!”
Bonnie says this win is surreal: “It’s the most unbelievable scenario to find yourself in. I am excited to embark on some long-awaited renovations to my home.”
Her winning ticket was purchased at Rexall on Argyle Street in Caledonia.
