HALDIMAND—County staff who qualify for increased wages during the pandemic can expect to see payments by June 25, 2020.

The initiative, announced by the Province in April, is designed as a recognition of the hard work being done by frontline workers who have been working with vulnerable sector populations throughout the pandemic. The bonus has two components. Firstly, $4 per hour in addition to normal wages, and a $250 monthly payment for every eligible worker who put in more than 100 hours during the stated month.

Haldimand County employs a number of staff at Grandview Lodge who are eligible for the pandemic pay, as well as local paramedics. As per provincial guidelines, payments are to be funded by the employer. The total estimated cost to the municipality is approximately $350,000 in hourly wages with an additional $150,000 in lump sum payments for the period of the bonus.
