JARVIS—Ball fans from across the county gathered at the Jarvis Lions Park on July 13 for a pork barbecue and exhibition game in support of the Haldimand Heat U16 fastball team that will represent Ontario at the Canadian Championships in Saskatchewan this August.
The Heat, which is made up of local athletes who play on teams affiliated with the Ontario Rural Softball Association (ORSA) in Hagersville, Fisherville, and Jarvis, qualified for the Canadians at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association (OASA) Eliminations Tournament held in Cobourg earlier in July. The team opened the tournament with a 3 – 2 win over Tavistock, to whom they had lost previously this spring. According to Coach Davin McKeen, “It was a very tough first game right off the bat. However the Heat played excellent and came out on top.”
