HALDIMAND—The Haldimand Heat U16 boys opened the Canadian Fastpitch Championship Tournament with three runs batted in for the first inning against host team Saskatoon Selects on July 31, 2019.
Dale Schweyer was the starting pitcher for Haldimand. He hit the first batter, but struck out the second, and a double play up next ended the first for the Selects. The start of the second had a very shaky start for Schweyer, who let in four runs without the Selects ever landing an actual hit. Schweyer walked five batters, a dropped pass let one Select get to first on his third strike, and those on base regularly advanced on passed balls, wild pitches, and one error from the catcher.
William Schlotzhauer took over on the mound from Schweyer partway through the second, striking out the next two batters to end the inning. Haldimand came back in the third when Carson Cadwell singled, batting in two runs in the process. Schlotzhauer recorded the win, allowing four hits but no runs and striking out 10. Haldimand took the first game 5-4.
Later that day things really heated up for Haldimand as they blew out the Irma Tigers 7-0. Jayden Lammel, Dustin Mckeen, and Ryan Dykstra batted in three runs during the first inning, with Jacob Richards stealing a fourth run from third on a wild pitch. David Cooper scored on an error in the second and Dylan Swick scored in the fourth on a passed ball. Schweyer started again, this time allowing one hit and zero runs in three innings. Mckeen came in as a relief pitcher for two innings and the game ended early.
