DUNNVILLE—On August 3, 2019 Wayne Nie was recognized for his extraordinary dedication to his community.
With his family and friends looking on, Nie received the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers during a ceremony at the Firefighter’s Association of Ontario’s annual meeting in Paris, ON.
Nie is a retired firefighter having served at Station 10 in Byng for 32 years. He served three years as a firefighter, then advanced to captain, and finally fire chief.
Beyond his work as a volunteer firefighter, Nie is equally dedicated to working with youth organizations. He gives his time to Haldimand Norfolk REACH, helping to enhance the lives of youth, as well as to Dunnville Minor Hockey, where he currently serves on the executive and as a head convener for the area league.
