SOUTH CAYUGA—The Beach Ladies Fitness Group started in January 2004 and is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary of working out together.
The ladies of Lakeshore Road in South Cayuga wanted to keep healthy and looked for a fitness instructor to lead the class. My sister-in-law, Jane Wilkinson, discovered that I was a volunteer fitness instructor at McMaster University’s Employee Funfit program and approached me about instructing the fitness classes in our neighbourhood. Hence, the Beach Ladies Fitness Group came to be.
Originally working out at the South Cayuga Community Hall, a few years ago the group moved to the South Cayuga Church Hall to work out. In the fall and winter the group works out Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. In the summer we skip the Saturday mornings and instead get our extra exercise spring cleaning, working in our gardens, bicycling, swimming, spending quality time with our family and friends, and so on.
