HALDIMAND—Haldimand County councillors voted unanimously in support of a new draft motion to explore ways for the County to have a bigger say on issues related to the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU).
Although Haldimand County pays 40% of the expenses related to the health unit, the Board of Health that governs the HNHU operates almost entirely outside of their jurisdiction. As it stands, the Board of Health is chaired by the Mayor of Norfolk County and the remaining members are made up of the eight Norfolk councillors. While Haldimand can provide their thoughts on how they would like Norfolk Council to vote, they do not have any votes themselves.
