CAYUGA—On August 19, 2021 – the day before she was to compete in her first-ever Tetrathlon – 13-year-old Abby Martin caught her toe on the very last hurdle of her final preparations. She went down hard and hugged the track several minutes before showing any movement.
With a badly banged-up knee, nobody would have blamed her if she decided not to show up the next day, but she demonstrated what kind of Iron Maiden she was by showing up and going on to capture the bronze medal in the Ontario Under-14 girls Combined Events Championships.
