Haldimand District Women’s Institute enjoys International Women’s Day
To The Haldimand Press
CAYUGA—The Cayuga Women’s Institute (WI) entertained the Haldimand District WI on March 8, 2022 at Cayuga United Church. Wesley Hall was decorated with pretty green tablecloths and shamrocks.
Myrna Cooper welcomed all the ladies and led the WI Grace. A delicious lunch of a variety of soups, homemade rolls, cheese, crackers, veggie trays, fruit cups, squares, and cookies were enjoyed by all.
Jo Geary introduced our guest speaker, Tina Cowper, and her young assistants, Andrea and Kim. They entertained and motivated the ladies with enthusiasm. Tina, an entrepreneur, shared how she sees a need and creates a new business. She also said how she is always motivated to help support the people in Cayuga and Haldimand County.
Some of her new ventures are Closet on the Grand, a clothing consignment store in Cayuga, and Lake Erie Cottage Care, a cleaning business for cottages and homes in Haldimand County.
She emphasized how she believes in empowering young women and using networking in building her businesses.
Andrea Stavinga enlightened the ladies about how her technology expertise on social media is used in the business, Closet on the Grand. She also led the ladies in a lively dance.
Kim John, Manager of Lake Erie Cottage Care, gave the ladies a view of how boosting and empowering young women made a great future for her. They inspired the ladies to go out and make a difference. Jo Geary thanked them with a tropical plant.
The ladies answered the roll call, “Let’s Keep It Green”. Some suggestions given of ways to make a difference in our homes and community for our environment were: recycling of all eligible items, composting, buying things free from plastic wrapping as much as possible, using reuseable grocery bags and using paper bags instead of plastic, turning off lights when not in the room, and picking up litter in the community. Liliane Hanson delighted the ladies with handcrafted door prizes, including a pot of gold. Myrna closed the meeting with an Irish Blessing.
