CALEDONIA—Have you ever wanted to volunteer at the Caledonia Fair, but didn’t know how to go about it? Have you ever thought of becoming a member of the Caledonia Agricultural Society (the Caledonia Fair Board) but had no idea of what’s involved? The answers to these questions will be at the first-ever Caledonia Fair Volunteer Fair on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Main Hall at the Riverside Exhibition Centre.
“We are one of the largest volunteer member organizations in Haldimand County,” says Caledonia Fair Vice President, Wendy Makey. “As an organization, we have a lot of smaller committees, each responsible for a different aspect of the fair or our other activities throughout the year. We rely on our membership and volunteers for the work that we do.”
Makey continued, “The Committee Fair is meant to educate our membership, and those in the public interested in volunteering or joining our membership, about what each Fair Committee does and how to get involved with a committee.”
Committees of the Caledonia Fair look after all aspects of the Fair Board’s activities, from grounds and buildings to competitions at fair time (baking, flowers, field crops, beef, dairy, etc.), to marketing and other year-round groups.
At the Committee Fair, displays will be set up explaining what each group does and what volunteer opportunities they have. Committee members will be available to answer questions, and there will be information on how to sign up as a volunteer or how to pursue becoming a member of the Agricultural Society. There will also be refreshments and door prizes available for those attending.
“An organization like ours is only as strong as its members and volunteers,” adds Makey. “We want to give those individuals interested in joining us a chance to see where they might best fit into our ranks. We want to reinforce our volunteer base and give everyone the opportunity to contribute in a way that they find most fulfilling.”
The 151st Caledonia Fair will be held at the Caledonia Fairgrounds September 28 to October 1. The Volunteer Fair will be held August 31, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Main Hall at the Riverside Exhibition Centre. For more information about the Caledonia Fair visit caledoniafair.ca.
