CAYUGA—Former NHL goalie Ray Emery, who grew up in Cayuga, drowned Sunday, July 15, 2018.
Emery, 35, went for an early morning swim while visiting a friend’s boat at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club. He did not re-surface and emergency services were called. At 2:50 p.m. the Niagara Regional Police dive unit discovered the body about 21 metres away from where Emery had entered the water. The death is not considered suspicious; Inspector Marty Schulenberg called it a “case of misadventure”. An autopsy was scheduled for July 16.
