CAYUGA—On Wednesday, January 16, 2019 Mayor Ken Hewitt, along with Councillors Tony Dalimonte, Rob Shirton and John Metcalfe, met at the Cayuga Memorial Arena for a Haldimand County open house. Approximately 30 local residents attended the question and answer session, which was also addressed by Chief Administrative Officer Don Boyle and General Manager of Public Works Phil Mete.
At the forefront once again was the possibility of Haldimand County opting in for marijuana distribution, with some residents vocally upset at the possibility.
“I think for everybody I’ve spoken to who seems to be challenged by the idea of it, there are others who support the idea,” said Mayor Hewitt. “But then there’s a good majority of people who I find are disinterested. It’s one of those things, unless there’s an emotional attachment or some personal experience, in a lot of cases it doesn’t have an impact on people.”
