CALEDONIA—Aleighia Murphy knows a thing or two about community spirit. She is one of two recipients of the 2019 Caledonia Junior Citizen of the Year award.
“I feel extremely humbled and honoured to have been recognized by the people and organizations that I’ve assisted in one way or another. This award motivates me to continue my work in the community, and to lead by example for others,” states Murphy.
Murphy has amassed an impressive list of credits that contributed to this honour. Among those are volunteering at the Canada Day Parade through the Caledonia Business Improvement Area, assisting in local karate classes, babysitting for her neighbours, and walking dogs for local residents in the Caledonia area.
Murphy is an accomplished scholar as well. Despite her busy schedule, she maintained an average over 90% through her years of schooling, winning the Academic Honours with Distinction award in Grades 9 through 11, as well as the Junior Performing Artist of the Year award for 2016-2017.
