Great fun, food, and laughter is how I would describe my night at the Dunnville Community Theatre’s production of “Next,” which was held in Fisherville at the end of June. It was the second stop on their road trip around Haldimand County. There is something very special about live community theatre. There is a different vibe in the room and I am connected to the people performing and the stories they tell in a unique way. This play is about a group of individuals who attend a speed dating event at a run-down pub. But there is more depth to the stories than first appears. The play is a labour of love for Kathryn Stengel and Claire Vanden Pol. Theses ladies have written, directed, and produced the play. To top it off, they are also part of the cast.
During the play, a couple of recipes were mentioned so, of course, my ears perked up. I immediately thought, “Would Cookie and Harley be willing to share those recipes?” Well, it turns out they were! But Harley requested we don’t tell his mother that he shared it with us! I really can’t say much more without spoiling the fun. If I have piqued your curiosity, consider attending their next show, which will be held at the Jarvis Lions Hall on September 14, 2024. Tickets available online at dct73.com and at the Dunnville Art Service. Enjoy!
