A Taste of Haldimand – December 5, 2024

I am continuing this week with the Holiday Brunch Workshop sponsored by the Cayuga Women’s Institute. At one time there were 28 chapters of the Women’s Institute in Haldimand County. There are currently three: Cayuga, Canfield, and Sims Locks. Each chapter contributes to the community by financially supporting local charities and offering learning opportunities in a friendly, inclusive environment. This workshop is one example of their outreach.

This set of recipes focuses on the easy, prep ahead breakfast. Johanne Tremblay demonstrated the muffin tin frittatas, which she found on the Dairy Farmers of Ontario milk calendar. Initially she was skeptical about including sweet potatoes, but she said they turned out to be delicious.Laurie Davis treated us to the overnight breakfast casserole. Laurie described herself as a “lazy cook”, so she is all about simple dishes. This can be made two days ahead, baked, and then reheated when you need it. Liliane Hanson’s recipe for apple fritter breakfast casserole was on the CHCH TV morning show. She said the adults and teenagers in her family all loved it, so she took that as a success! We enjoyed them all!
