A Taste of Haldimand: October 3, 2024

Cindy Huitema

I stopped by the home of Cindy Huitema when she was in the middle of creating something delicious in the kitchen, which, of course, led to a recipe discussion. Before I get to those recipes let me tell you a bit about Cindy.

Cindy and her husband Nick are egg farmers in rural Cayuga. She originally hails from the Waterloo area. It was at a Waterloo Junior Farmer Banquet in 1981 where she first met Nick. They married in 1985, and have raised a family of four children. Two of them, Charlotte and John, continue to work with them in the family egg business. The family has expanded to include significant others and two beloved grandchildren.

It’s not only on the farm that Cindy devotes her time. She is actively involved at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Cayuga, where she plays the organ. She is also a member of the Dunnville Horticultural Society and enjoys creating hand crafts, such as smocking with the “Grand Smockers” group. If this is not enough, Cindy also teaches piano. She currently has two very enthusiastic pupils, but has mentored over 200 students through the years.
