Nicholas, Benjamin, Karen and John Warbick
What an enjoyable visit I had with Karen Allen and her family of Canborough – husband John Warbick and sons Nicholas and Benjamin.
Karen loves experimenting in the kitchen. She is active in her church community, 4-H, and enjoys a regular Dinner Club with friends. When not in the kitchen, you’ll find Karen at Edgewater Gardens in Dunnville, where she is the quality assurance nurse. She said everyone who tastes the sweet potato soup loves it.
John, who grew up on a farm in Dunnville, is now retired from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Being retired doesn’t mean he isn’t working. He enjoys an extensive home garden where he starts all his plants from seed; last year alone he harvested 700 pounds of sweet potatoes. John also likes to spend time in the kitchen.
Nicholas is always looking for a good poutine. His work as an environmental technician requires travel throughout southern Ontario so he can check out various eating establishments. I asked if there were any memorable poutines he’s tried. One was served with fries topped with Greek salad dressing, feta, and whole olives including the pits, but nothing else. Memorable doesn’t mean it tasted good!
Benjamin has recently started making different dishes to broaden his horizons and enjoy a healthier diet. He is currently studying for his master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He made the eggplant recipe for his grandmother and she really liked it. Enjoy!
