One of my passions is reading. I love books, libraries, and book stores! I spent 30 years working in public and school libraries, loving every minute. This summer I thought it would be fun to explore books in our public library that have a food-themed story. Of course I had to look at the cookbooks too.
The American Heart Association’s “Go Fresh” is a book packed full of heart healthy recipes. The focus of this book is the high-quality content of recipes and not so much on decorative photos. The recipes are well laid out on the page, making it easy to see at a glance the prep time required, number of servings, and the detailed list of ingredients. Any tips or notes specific to the recipe are highlighted in a separate text box. Most of the ingredients will be accessible at your local grocery store or market. I tried a couple of the dip recipes and received favourable reviews from my dinner guests. We found the lemon-ginger dip quite refreshing. The turkey and green bean pasta salad was good but my family thought it needed more spice or a wee bit of salt and pepper. I used chicken for turkey and bocconcini for the feta.
