Anne McAlpine: April 18, 2019

I have been reading through several old Taste of Home magazines and one from 2009 contained some great chili recipes. Taste of Home had a chili contest in 2001 that had over 3,500 recipes submitted. The first place winner was a pepperoni pizza chili and second place winner was a creamy white chili. I felt this was a great time to share these recipes as the Knights of Columbus Chili Cook Off is going to be held at McKinnon Park Secondary School on April 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. It is always such an interesting and exciting event and this year they have 20 entrants vying for top prize. I have judged for the past two years and will be doing so again this year.

Marilouise Wyatt’s family from West Virginia love her chili. She created the pizza chili recipe because she didn’t like making pizza crust and decided to put the pizza in a bowl instead!

Laura Brewer’s creamy white chili is made from a family recipe. It is easy to create, which she particularly liked at the time because she was still a college student. She commented that she has never had another dish that got so many compliments. Each chili recipe makes about 8 servings.

In the same book, I found a recipe for mocha walnut brownies that sounded really delicious. They would make a great dessert after a bowl of hot chili.
