I recently had a request for some date loaf recipes and so I have included my friend Judy Misener’s recipe. It makes two loaves and is really moist and delicious. When I made it, I added a touch of cinnamon and it turned out well.

The pineapple date loaf is from an old United Church cookbook and is the one that I have used before. It is very different from the other loaf as the pineapple gives it a unique taste. Be sure to let the date mixture cool well for both recipes before mixing the other ingredients to make your batter.

I got this date square recipe from Paula Armstrong of the Nanticoke area. I have tasted one that she made and really liked it. It reminded me of the date squares that my Grandma used to make.

Dates are naturally sweet and rich in fibre and they are full of antioxidants and minerals including iron, calcium, and potassium, so they are good for you. Enjoy some as a snack. You could dip one in a bit of honey and roll it in some chopped pistachios, or slice one almost in half and spread with some flavoured cream cheese spread. I tried this with Boursin Cranberry and Pepper Cheese spread and I really enjoy the combination of flavours and texture.
