Rita Rose Harris passed on July 12, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born October 9, 1934, in Toronto, Ontario. Rita spent her early childhood on a farm in Terra Nova, then moved to Toronto until 19, when she made her home for the rest of her life in the Haldimand Township area. She was known for her love of making and sharing her delicious pies, her love of music, as well as her thoughtful ways of remembering people by sending birthday cards, always sealed with her signature SWAK (Sealed With a Kiss). Rita worked at Hagersville Hospital for 25 years, where she formed countless friendships that lasted her lifetime. She also cherished being part of family milestones, making trips across western Canada for weddings and the births of grandchildren. Together with her husband, Tom Harris, she enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling throughout the country. Rita loved her family deeply. She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Harris; her sister, Maureen Henderson; and her children: Debbie Doyle (Darrell); Danny Doyle (predeceased February 24, 1998) (Donna); Darlene Tenz (Randy); Denise Buttons Doyle (Nathan); Dawn Freeth (Glen); and Dee Doyle. She is also survived by her many grandchildren: Andrea, Karli, Sheldon, Sarah, Jacob, Julie, Steven, Chris (deceased), Jonah, Brittany, Katie, and Kelly. Rita’s stepchildren include: Randy (Beth); Darcy (Dale); and Jennifer (deceased) (Richard). Her step-grandchildren include: William (deceased), Adam, Dylan, Lucas, Stephanie, and Timothy. She was also blessed with 44 great-grandchildren. Rita leaves behind many memories, a legacy of kindness, and a love that will be deeply felt by all who knew her. It was their hope to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary, but she passed from this life two days early. We know she is at peace—and that she is reunited with her son Danny, celebrating in Glory. We extend our love to all family and friends, her beloved church community, as well as a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Israel Olaluwoye and staff, and the staff at Leisure Living, especially LeeAnne! Deep gratitude is extended to Dr. Renn and all the staff at Stedman Hospice for making Rita’s last 3 weeks a taste of heaven ♥. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Selkirk Baptist Church. Help us celebrate by wearing Dutch blue, if you can!
