January 29, 1945 – February 15, 2026
Ron passed away on February 15, 2026, at Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Horton and Yvette (Plouffe); siblings, James and Gail; as well as his brother-in-law, Cliff Tessier. He leaves behind his sister-in-law, Kathryn; nephew, Tom (Angela McHugh); and nieces, Charlene (Henry Verbeek) and Sharon (Curtis MacNeil). He was born and raised in Buckingham, Quebec, spending much of his childhood at the family cottage on Lac O’Neil. He loved spending time at the cottage over the years, having many friends and relations there. Ron moved to Caledonia when he joined the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) and was posted to St. Catharines, followed by the Cayuga detachment, from which he retired. He was fortunate to have spent much of his career in the Cayuga detachment and was a recognized figure in the community. He also worked prisoner security for the Hamilton Court House until 2010. He enjoyed his career as a Community Officer and being a part of the OPP family. Ron was a sociable person, having many dear friends primarily from areas around Buckingham and Notre Dame du Laus, Quebec; across his O.P.P. family; and in Caledonia, Ontario. He was kind and was always helping someone out. He loved to stop and chat whenever he saw you. Remember him fondly, and when you get together, just raise a glass and know that he would love to be there with you! Ron wished to be cremated with no funeral service. Donations can be made to the O.P.P. Youth Foundation or CHEO. Funeral arrangements entrusted to MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Caledonia (905-765-2712). Friends and family are invited to send condolences and sign the Book of Memories at www.millerfuneralchapel.ca.
