June 17, 1949 – October 6, 2024
It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Norman James Hubert at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton, with his son Phil by his side, on Sunday, October 6, 2024 in his 76th year following a short illness of pancreatic cancer. Beloved husband for 24 years of Mary Elizabeth (nee Griffey), his “brown-eyed girl”. Loving father of Matthew (Victoria), Phil, Steven (Rachel) and Jennifer (Brad). Loving Grandfather of Alice, Samantha, Christine, Claudia, and Robert. Survived by sisters-in-law Shirley McTear, Joan McTear, Joyce Campbell, Marlene Wade, Margaret Bernhardt (twin sister of Mary Griffey) and Lori Smith Griffey (†Robert). Much loved uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews and their children. Survived by his brother Ron Hubert and sister Dorothy Hopkins (nee Hubert). Loving Godparent of nephew Mark Hubert. Predeceased by his parents Dorothy Jean (Marshall) and Edward “Ted” Andrew Hubert; parents-in-law Horace William and Nellie Muriel “Babe” Griffey; nephews Randy and Grant McTear. Predeceased by brothers Bill, Harry, Bob and Alvin McTear as well as brothers-in-law Robert Smith and William Griffey. Norm was a retired member of Local UA67 Pipefitters and Plumbers, a trade of which he was very proud. One year while at Simcoe fair, Mary purchased a T-Shirt that read “Of course, I don’t look busy, I did it right the first time”. When Norm wore the t-shirt to work the next day, Mary had to make another trip to Simcoe Fair to buy 8 more t-shirts. Norm treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, enjoying music by Gordon Lightfoot, cross word puzzles and Sci-Fi. Norm became a reluctant fan of Mary’s Nascar races, cheering on his favorite driver #22 Joey Logano. Every Friday night Norm regained full control of the T.V. remote, when Mary and her sister Margie attended dirt track races at Ohsweken Speedway. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. A. L. Gunning, family physician for many years, Dr. S. Hotte, prostate oncologist and staff at Juravinski C-3 Oncology ward during Norm’s 4 day stay. As per Norm’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 27 Orkney Street East, Caledonia, Ontario with Reverend Jann Brooks officiating, assisted by Reverend Deacon Nancy McBride. Interment of ashes in Caledonia Cemetery following the service, followed by a reception in St. Paul’s Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Church would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements entrusted to MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Caledonia (905-765-2712). May our memories of Norm be a blessing to us all.
Always, forever my love -Norm- The price of great love is great sorrow.
