
After a short illness, we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth George Smith, surrounded by family, on his 93rd birthday, January 23, 2025, at West Haldimand General Hospital, Hagersville. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Smith (2019) for 66 years. Cherished father of Wayne and Nancy, the late Jack (2007) and the late Shirley (2016), Cheryl and Steve, Pat and Gary, Deborah, Kim, and Doug. Loving grandfather of Lorrie Ann and Matt (Henry and Oliver), Dwayne and Michelle, Andrea (Katie, Elizabeth, and Joe), Jennifer, Jonathan, Matthew and Karen, Mallory and Oliver, Mark and Kassandra (Theo), Amy and Chris (Spencer, Zachary, and Cole), Sandra (Marlee and Jace), Kyle and Nash (Avery and Harper), Dakota, Daniel, and Kiara. Brother of Clifford Smith (Linda), Norma Ayotte, Liz Smith-Walker and the late Earl Smith. Brother-in-law to † Anne Butler (†Paul), Linda Mills (Doug), Glen Kitchen, Barb Fearman, †Alice Harper (†John), †Ada Armstrong (†Ivan), and Sue Kitchen (†Jim). Ken was a past president and life member of the Jarvis Lions Club, a dedicated servant of his community, and an active member of Christ Church Nanticoke until its closure. Born in Calgary, Ken joined the Canadian Army at 17, serving as a Craftsman with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. In 1951, he was stationed at the Hagersville Army Camp to refurbish WWII army vehicles to send to Korea. That same year, he met his future wife, Ruth, on a blind date. They married in 1952 after his honorable discharge. Ken’s work ethic and mechanical talent shaped a career that began with the Haldimand County Roads Department in 1954 and culminated at Conklin Shows in Brantford, where he worked until his retirement in 1998. A devoted family man, Ken was known for his kindness, craftsmanship, and community spirit. He continued to serve the Jarvis Lions Club into his 90’s, leaving an enduring legacy of generosity and dedication. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Jarvis Community Centre, 18 James St., Jarvis, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jarvis Lions Club, W.H.G.H.
