It was the last competition of the year, but also the first in what is hoped to be a competitive indoor season for Athletiques International track and field club. Seventy-two-year-old Lucille Green took advantage of the December 29 meet in St. Catharines by breaking her own Ontario Age-Class Record in the 12-pound weight throw. On her very first attempt, she heaved the weight 8.06m, bettering her previous best of 7.95m, set at York University a year earlier. She came close to bettering that mark on two other attempts, but will have to wait for a January 9 meet for a chance to extend the record.
Also competing on January 9, attempting to earn a spot on Team Ontario for a Dual meet with Under-16 Quebec athletes on February 12 in Montreal will be 13-year-old Abby Martin in middle distance and jumps, and 14-year-old Ava Myke in the sprints.
