HALDIMAND—Cayuga’s Caitlyn Thompson became the youngest candidate for Team Ontario on Sunday, winning the 1,500m race walk against both male and female competitors as much as three years older.
Thompson managed to lap the entire field, save one boy, at the Toronto Track and Field Centre at York University.
It was the 12-year-old’s debut over the longer distance, having established herself as the class of the field over 800m as owner of four Ontario Age-Group Records, as well as being the fastest-ever for her age over one kilometre. She can now add the 8:54.65 time to her resumé.
