There have been approximately 150 frauds reported to Haldimand OPP in each of the last three years. Scammers are constantly coming up with different ways to get your money. It is important that everyone stays educated and vigilant. Follow these tips to reduce the risk of being victimized:
- Never give out any personal information to someone you don’t know. If someone asks for this information, ask for a number you can call them back at later and verify if it is correct.
- Be cautious if someone is asking for money.
- Always shred or destroy personal documents, rather than just throwing them in the garbage or recycling bin.
- Never give someone who has called you access to your computer.
