Burned car removed from CN train bridge near Highway 6 bypass

CALEDONIA—The remains of a burnt-out vehicle placed on the CN rail line near the Highway 6 bypass in Caledonia by members of the group 1492 Land Back Lane was removed last week. The blockade, set up in solidarity with members of the Wet’suwet’en clan in BC opposing gas pipelines, is the latest in a series of blockades carried out by the Land Back community. Previous blockades shutdown area roads for extended periods of time. Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett, who has sparred online with members of that community, commented on the ongoing blockades: “Someone can argue ‘we’re going to destroy this railway to try and change government policy or get media attention’, but they have failed. It’s been a failure all around…. It’s really not much more than vandalism and sabotage. They’re not getting their message out.”
