CALEDONIA—The Caledonia Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary celebrated their 70th anniversary last week with a special dinner held at the legion.

The group, which used to boast a membership of up to 40 volunteers, now rests in the hands of eight tremendous women. Between them, they hold a combined 270 years worth of service to their community.

“It was all about the friendship, the camaraderie, and the sense of duty,” explains Mary Hubert, secretary for the group, with 48 years of service to her name. “Without our veterans, we wouldn’t enjoy what we have now. That’s always been something we were taught.”

The auxiliary has played a large role in the legion, providing delicious meals to veterans and community members since their inception.

“As young children, us girls played with dolls and colouring books while our mothers set tables and cleaned up. When older, we helped with all those chores, and helped at banquets and weddings. We all joined as soon as we were able to and held many positions over the last years of our membership,” said Lynda Dunn, who also boasts 48 years of involvement with the group.
