CALEDONIA—Ava Ro is one busy teenager. Her latest project, appearing as a series regular in the new show Take Note, debuts February 28 on streaming service Peacock.

The show is a family-friendly musical comedy about a group of artists taking part in a singing competition.

“I play the role of Maya, who is one of the contestants on Take Note. She is a dedicated performer who has spent her childhood touring malls, fairs, and festivals. She’s a K-Pop fan and brings elements of the genre into her own style! She’s talented, focused, and willing put the hard work in to win,” said Ro of the character she portrays in the new show.

“Working with this cast and production was such an amazing experience. I was so excited when I was cast for this role because it was an opportunity to showcase my acting, dancing, and singing skills, which I have been working so hard at since I was very young,” she added. “It was also great to be surrounded by such a diverse and talented cast and I feel lucky that I was able to rehearse, perform, and share the screen with them.”

Take Note is not Ro’s first crack at singing and performing. As part of the musical group GFORCE, Ava performed live on the competition show America’s Got Talent at just 11 years old in 2019.

“I love the thrill of performing in front of a live audience,” she said. “To be able to perform in front of celebrity judges like Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, Dwayne Wade, and 15 million television viewers is an experience that I will never forget.”

Ro is also an emerging songwriter and is planning on releasing her debut solo album this year. She has already had the chance to perform music she wrote herself on the Disney show ‘Holly Hobbie’, where she plays the role of Claudia.

“I was originally cast as a guest star in Season 2 and appeared in two episodes. When I found out that I was going to be a series regular in seasons 3, 4, and 5, I was surprised and excited to see how Claudia’s character would develop throughout the show.”

Ro continued, “As a musician, I have recorded many covers and have started to focus on songwriting. I’m also currently working on original music. So, when the producers of Holly Hobbie approached me to see if I would be interested in writing the rap that Claudia performs in one of the episodes, I jumped at the chance and wrote and produced the song, The Human Dictionary, which I performed in Season 3, Episode 6.”

Other notable roles Ro has taken on include a part in the series Big Top Academy, in addition to multiple voice roles in series such as Thomas and Friends, PAW Patrol, Dino Ranch, and Remy and Boo.

Ro said it can be tricky to balance the responsibilities of performing with maintaining a normal life as a teenager.

“Being a working actor can be busy. At one point this past summer, I was actually working on two productions (Holly Hobbie and Take Note) at the same time, but since I love what I do, it doesn’t really feel like work.”

When she’s not working on a production, Ro does normal teenager things like hanging out with friends, going to the mall, reading, and playing video games.

“I also get bored easily, so when I’m not acting I work on my music. Right now, I’m actually finishing up my first debut EP album with three original songs that I co-wrote, which will be released this spring.”

Ro’s mom Jennifer Kragton touched on the craziness that comes with having children in show business: “We actually have two daughters that are in the industry, so there are times when our schedules are very busy. However, there will be a time when they are all grown up and we will miss it. So, we just try to enjoy the special moments and journey that we are on.”

She concluded, “One of our biggest priorities is to help Ava maintain a balanced life so that she can still feel like a normal teenager. However, we also try to support her and encourage her to pursue her passions and goals that she sets for herself. We don’t want to limit her dreams and what she can accomplish in life.”
