CALEDONIA—Habitat for Humanity Haldimand County Chapter’s second Catch the Ace fundraiser has come to a close. The $26,514 jackpot was awarded to Peter Fedikow on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Caledonia Legion.
Fedikow said he played the game every week.
“It was a very nice birthday present,” said Fedikow, whose birthday was just two days earlier. “It’s surreal; it’s not every day you win that much money.”
In the Catch the Ace game, each card in a deck of 52 is placed in an envelope. A winner is drawn from that week’s ballots purchased and their envelope is opened. If he/she is unsuccessful in finding the ace of spades, the game continues for another week until the ace of spades is found. Fedikow caught the ace after 33 weeks.
Near the end of the 33 weeks, more than 1,000 tickets (1 for $10 or 3 for $20) were being sold each week between the Caledonia Legion on Wednesday nights and the Dunnville Legion on Tuesday nights.
