It was a virtual “gimme” that the Under-15 Ontario Indoor Record for the 1,500m Race Walk would fall this year – it was just a matter of by how much.
That question was answered on Saturday, February 29, 2020 as Caitlyn Thompson of Cayuga gave herself an early birthday present – she turns 14 on March 10 – by chopping 46 seconds from her own Personal Record (PR) in the event and 20 seconds from the previous Athletics Ontario Record, winning the gold handily in just over eight minutes (8:03.55). The silver medalist, lapped by Caitlyn with 600 metres to go, finished in 10:14.
