CAYUGA—On August 20, when athletes at York University for the last summer track and field meet of the year were lined up for the 400m on the curved line, known as a waterfall start, they neglected to inform Cayuga’s Sarah Rodriques, competing in her first club meet, that she was allowed to cut in to the inside lane right after the gun. Being positioned in lane eight, she ended up running the entire first bend in that lane, while the more experienced athletes cut toward the curb.
