40,000 residents in 15,000 dwellings – almost DOUBLE the current population of Haldimand crammed into the village of Nanticoke, largest development In Ontario!

  • February 14, 2022 – Empire Homes presented to the former Haldimand County Council a proposed new development.
  • March 1, 2022 – A report was presented to Council to discuss the Empire Homes proposal.
  • March 7, 2022 – All former members of Council voted unanimously in support for requesting an MZO RE: the CITY of 40,000 in Nanticoke.
  • March 8, 2022 – Formal request for a MZO was submitted by the former Haldimand County Council.

All of this happened in just three weeks…

The newly elected Haldmand County Mayor campaigned on withdrawing the MZO and having PUBLIC CONSULTATION on the proposal, Council agreed to hold a public consultation and this is your chance to voice your concerns and let Council know how you feel about the development.

Thoughts:

  • Is Empire Homes really going to provide a fully operational Waste Water Treatment Plant, at
    NO cost to the taxpayer?
  • What is the cost to Haldimand County when Stelco decides to leave?
  • Infrastructure is already stretched; this will put a huge strain on our local services.
  • How will our roads handle the influx of traffic? Who pays for roadway maintenance, snow plowing, potholes, roadside trimming?
  • We already have a shortage of doctors, nurses, and supports for mental health and addiction.
  • Increase in need for fire, police, ambulance services.
  • Overcrowding in schools; our KIDS, our FUTURE.
  • Disruption, noise – with a development of this magnitude, construction will be a permanent feature of our daily lives.
  • Our Rural way will quickly turn CITY.

The list goes on…. Whatever your reason is, it is important that you let Council know, they can change their minds, your opinion matters.
