The following were discussed at Council in Committee on May 7 and any decisions made were ratified at the following Council meeting on May 13, 2019.
Additional funds needed for banner poles
The replacement of the Caledonia cross-road banner poles at 290 Argyle Street North will cost more than projected in the 2015 Tax-Supported Capital Budget. Council approved the additional funding of $9,500 in order to complete the project. The banner poles were installed in 2007 to promote festivals and events. In 2014 while installing a banner a crack was found in one of the poles and the poles were leaning towards the roadway. Previous attempts to straighten the existing poles were unsuccessful.
CIP grant approved for bed and breakfast
Council approved a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) grant of $37,100 to assist in the conversion of a residential home into a three-bedroom bed and breakfast in Caledonia. Located at 204 Caithness Street East, the current single dwelling home will need exterior improvements including the replacement of existing windows, landscaping, and the enlargement of the parking area. Inside the home will need two new bathrooms and soundproofing, which is not covered under the grant. An outdoor sign will also be added to the property.
