HALDIMAND—Last week, Haldimand County Council approved the 2021 Tax Supported Capital budget, the second of three budgets used to gauge County spending throughout the calendar year and over the course of the next 10 years.
The first budget, the Rate Supported Capital and Operating budget, was approved in January and dealt primarily with water and wastewater operations. The Tax Supported Capital budget is focused on infrastructure renewal, specifically looking at areas such as roadway improvements, bridge rehabilitation, and enhancements to corporate, community, and recreational facilities.
“This year we did have a bit of a challenge producing a budget that met all of our fiscal principles,” said County CAO Craig Manley. “As currently presented, the budget does meet our financial principles to ensure that we continue to have a strong financial position, and that our capital program is predictable, reliable, and that we have funding flexibility to respond to unforeseen capital requirements.”
