Creative and practical: 12-year-old makes mask holder from Haldimand Press newspapers

CALEDONIA—Sadie D. of Caledonia got creative with old newspapers for a very practical reason. “I made a mask holder to hold and display masks! I worked really hard on it too!” said Sadie. The holder has four pegs to hold masks. Sadie’s mask holder has been entered in The Haldimand Press and Ontario Community Newspapers Association’s “This old newspaper?!” reader contest (see info below), where she will have a chance to win $1,000.
Step 1. Sadie tightly rolled and sealed pages of newspaper to make hard tubes.
Step 2. Sadie lined the tubes horizontally and hot glued them to make the back boards.
Step 3. Sadie connected the two back boards with vertical tubes in the middle. She then cut up the remaining tubes and glued them on in circular bunches to make pegs for the masks to hang on.
