Demonstrators say number of supporters has only grown in response to each arrest made by OPP

CALEDONIA—Since August 5, 2020 a total of 22 individuals have been arrested in relation to demonstrations on or around the McKenzie Meadows residential development in Caledonia.

Self-titled land defender, Skyler Williams, says these arrests have only spurred further growth in support for the Land Back movement: “Every time the OPP escalate the situation with these arrests it swells our numbers. Not some of the time, every time.”

Williams has been on the site since July 19 and was one of the first nine arrests made on August 5. While the OPP managed to clear the site at that time, they have previously stated they do not have the resources to stay on site and keep it clear. Demonstrators returned that same day, including at least some of those who had been arrested and released.
