HALDIMAND—A preliminary budget of $50,000 was approved by Haldimand Council to defend an appeal made against the County’s new development charges passed in May 2019.

Losani Homes Ltd. filed the only appeal on June 20, 2019, four days before the appeal deadline. Haldimand staff are confident that the new development charges by-law meet all Provincial requirements.

Ward Three Councillor Dan Lawrence said he fully supports fighting the appeal as many long-time builders who have worked in Haldimand did not have an issue with the changes.

“It’s not acceptable that a new builder can appeal and cost our staff and taxpayers time and resources,” said Lawrence.
