DUNNVILLE—Like many charitable endeavours, the Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation (DHHF) has taken their annual Care & Win Lottery fundraiser online this year, allowing people to purchase their fundraising tickets from the comfort of their homes.

“To meet the growing needs of the community, and ensure we always receive exceptional care close to home, the Foundation continues to raise funds to support the priority medical needs of Haldimand War Memorial Hospital (HWMH) and Edgewater Gardens,” said Danielle Ormonde, Signature Event and Social Media Coordinator for DHHF, which was established in 1974.

Mike Stewart of Royal Lepage NRC Realty is this year’s presenting sponsor, offering a cheque for $7,000 to help fund the lottery.

“I was honoured to have the opportunity to sponsor the lottery because our hospital is a first-rate facility that has been instrumental in the health and care of our community,” said Stewart. “I have been very fortunate to be able to work and live in this community surrounded by friends and family and believe a strongly supported hospital is vital to our citizens.”

“My connection to the hospital is long standing.  I was born and raised in Dunnville and am now raising my own young family in town with my wife Katey and kids Dylan and Hazel. The exceptional staff of the hospital have been instrumental throughout the years in providing first rate care for our children, families, and friends,” he continued. “Many members of my own family have been in the care of the health personnel at HWMH and on every occasion they have gone above and beyond to ensure every and all needs have exceeded any expectation.”

Ormonde says that fundraising during the pandemic has been a challenging endeavour, but that the community support for local hospitals and healthcare services has remained steady.

“Our frontline workers have not only persevered through the COVID-19 pandemic, they have risen to and crushed the challenge head on for more than a year,” said Stewart.

The raised funds will go towards the highest priority medical needs at HWMH, which provides DHHF with a yearly list of equipment deemed essential by hospital leadership: “Currently we are raising funds for equipment and upgrades for Diagnostic Imaging and the Lab.  Some of this equipment costs upwards of $300,000 and we are committed to supporting their needs,” said Penny Banks, Executive Director of DHHF.

Tickets can be purchased at                                  dhhflottery.ca in allotments of 5 for $10, 30 for $20, and 150 for $50.
