DUNNVILLE—Did you make it out to Seedy Saturday in Cayuga on April 29? Well, we are so glad if you did. If not, you missed a great event. Dunnville Horticultural Society (DHS) had a groovy day meeting new members, sharing our story, and mingling with all the vendors. We can’t wait to start all our seeds.
Do you know what else we can’t wait for? So many things! This month is packed with so much fun. First up we have our annual Plant Sale. The event is being held May 13 in the east parking lot beside the bridge from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and you can drop off your donated items on Friday, May 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Donations of plants, garden art, and tools are being accepted. You want to show up early so you don’t miss out. Come talk to our volunteers about membership and your gardens.

After you have enjoyed the Plant Sale and planted your new treats, why not come out to the monthly program night? This month’s program, on Thursday, May 18 from 7 to 9 p.m., is on fairy gardens by Sandi Marr. The kids are going to be excited to check out this program so don’t forget to bring the kids, the grandkids, the grandparents, etc. A fun evening for everyone and not to be missed!
Do you have extra time on your hands? Do you want to help your community? What about helping to beautify Dunnville? Want to meet new people? Well volunteering with the DHS is for you. Weekly gardening will satisfy your need for Vitamin D and fun outdoors. Join our community for planting days from May 23 to 25 – all ages and capabilities are welcome. We need planters to help colour our town. If interested please show up at 8 a.m. at the following locations: Tuesday – Sweet Retrospect, Wednesday – Market/Lighthouse, and Thursday – Godfathers Pizza. For more information contact Deb at debzyn@gmail.com or call 416-566-9337.
This is going to be a great season for DHS, with membership back to over 100, we’re gaining strength and making a huge difference in the community.
Service clubs are so important, and we welcome everyone to come out to an event or program night and see what we are all about. You won’t be disappointed. All program nights are fully accessible, refreshments provided (Smile Cookies are coming this month), and lots of fun and excitement. All ages welcome. Hope to see you there this month, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Optimist Hall.
