DUNNVILLE—In the past year and a half, the Optimist Club of Dunnville roster has gone from 16 to 29 members. These members come with fresh new ideas and a willingness to share their passion to “bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.” Some of the established programs are now being led by these new members, giving the older members opportunities to explore other programs and opportunities within the Club and the Optimist organization, such as taking on the mentoring of the newly formed J.O.I. (Junior Optimist International) Club.

The JOI members established their Board and a name C.A.V.E. (Creative Achieving Volunteers Ever) and began their journey in July holding a bake sale at Dunnville’s Canada Day in the Park event. In December, they participated in the Santa Claus parade and also held a Holiday Crafternoon and Movie event. JOI members meet twice a month – once at the Hall and once on Zoom. New members (ages 7 to 18) are welcome to join.
The new Optimist members also bring new ideas to the table, tweaking established events such as Family Day and making it into a Winter Carnival, or bringing totally new ideas, such as the Family Vintage Movie Event that was held January 4 at the Optimist Hall. This event kicked off with an award-winning and entertaining short film followed by the feature film Annie.
The Optimist Club is always looking for new ideas and members. If you are looking for an opportunity to make a difference in your community, contact the Optimists at optimistdunnville54@gmail.com or call 905-774-7244.
