DUNNVILLE—In the fall of 2019, Optimist International President Adrian Elcock challenged Optimists to “re-iMagine” ways that things were done in the past. He stated that the collective imagination would make the year “special”. Little did he know that Optimists would truly be put to the test this spring and how “special” this year would truly be. The Optimist Club of Dunnville has accepted the challenge.
The Optimist members look forward to Canada Day. It is a time to network with other Service Clubs and a time to provide families with the opportunity to gather together and celebrate – live music in the park; games for the children; prizes for everyone; hot dogs, cake, and ice cream – all at no cost to the families.
This year, keeping in mind the health and safety of all members and the community, the Optimist Club came to the decision to cancel the Canada Day in the Park Celebration. However, the Optimists have re-iMagined a Canada Day in which the community can celebrate together while still staying apart.
The Optimists are excited to hold a community-wide Canada Day Decorating Contest. To enter the contest, families are asked to decorate a window or the entire yard, snap a photo, and submit it to the Optimist Club via email (email@example.com).
Prizes include a $50 Google Play Card and three large stuffed bears (valued at $30). The deadline to enter is June 29 and the winner will be announced on July 1.
To keep with the well-known tradition of the “stuffies giveaway” for the children, stuffies have been donated to local organizations for distribution throughout the community.
Lastly, they are working on producing a video of children from our community singing O Canada.
