Empire Homes Avalon: 1000s of new families

To the Editor,

I sent an email to Empire Avalon (on May 12) asking, ‘How many homes are in their plan for Caledonia?’

I received a reply from New Homes Specialist, N. Armes, indicating, “Once complete, Avalon will be home to thousands of new families.” Two well detailed maps followed.

Acres of farmland gone in Caledonia. Thousands of new families, same infrastructure. A century old two-lane bridge between south and north side of Caledonia. Portables on school properties that resemble trailer parks.

But we did get a $10K parade donation from Empire.

At a public consultation, April 27, municipal councillors grilled the speakers afterward. One bemoaned, “People don’t have a clue what’s going on,” when he knocked on doors.

The audience heard the MZO wouldn’t be building 15,000 homes in Nanticoke, those numbers and the MZO were likely propaganda.

After receiving an email confirmation from Avalon (Caledonia) representative, 1000s of new families upon project completion and Phase 8, I can surmise the MZO in Nanticoke may well not be “propaganda” and people, voters, residents of Haldimand, Norfolk, and Six Nations, plus the heavy industrial occupants (Stelco, Imperial Oil, etc.) need to stand up, voice our opinions to the Federal and Provincial ministers that are responsible for industry, agriculture, economic trade, and environment.

There is a federal election brewing folks.

Our voices speak loudly when it comes time for elections.

Start asking questions and questioning the answers.

Let’s show those who think you are clueless you are going to hold them accountable and responsible.
