Extra support for farmers

From the office of MPP Toby Barrett

To The Haldimand Press

Toby Barrett, MPP Haldimand Norfolk, welcomed the government’s action to expand the Risk Management Program a year earlier than planned by $50 million for a total of $150 million annually. This funding supports farmers with unforeseen challenges such as fluctuating market prices, extreme weather events like flooding or drought, and disease.

“I am personally quite heartened to see the funding for Ontario’s Risk Management Program increase from $100 million to $150 million a year,” said Barrett “I have attended many farm meetings, and a few tractor rallies, over the past two decades in support of risk management.”

The announcement was made on July 16, 2020 by Premier Doug Ford and Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The deadline to apply closes at midnight on July 30.
