FISHERVILLE—The Fisherville Lions Club announced January 19, 2019 that their outdoor rink is officially open for its third season.
Lions Walt Schaeffer and Jim Swing were seen applying multiple layers of water to the Fisherville Outdoor Multipurpose Facility floor throughout the day on January 18, 2019. While the facility has a roof, its walls are open above the surrounding boards, and therefore the Lions must wait for the temperature to be low enough to keep the ice frozen.
The facility, which opened in 2015, was jointly funded between the members of Fisherville District Lions Club and Haldimand County. The first phase was about $750,000 and was made possible by a “large contribution” from local residents, said Lion Craig Hoskin.
“When the Dunnville Arena was torn down the Lions recovered the arena boards. Many hours were spent reconfiguring the existing equipment to meet the standards of our new facility,” said Hoskin.
