Five candidates go head-to-head in election debate

HALDIMAND—Hundreds tuned in to watch the Haldimand-Norfolk candidate debate, hosted by The Haldimand Press on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.

Former CHCH news anchor Connie Smith moderated the evening, working through a dozen questions with the five attending candidates:

  • Ken Gilpin, People’s Party
  • Leslyn Lewis, Conservative Party
  • Charles Lugosi, Christian Heritage Party
  • Karen Matthews, Liberal Party
  • Meghan Piironen, New Democratic Party

The evening was made possible through partnerships with the Caledonia Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Realtors Association of Hamilton Burlington, and Windecker Road Films.

Below is a review of 10 questions asked during the debate. Additional questions, not included due to space constraints, included if candidates would push to reinstate a Chief Nursing Officer and their plan for climate change.

Advanced polls took place from September 10-13. The primary polling day will take place September 20.
