CAYUGA—After almost a year of pandemic restrictions and missing loved ones, Valentine’s Day has perhaps been as much a celebration of friendship as of romance. For Marlene Link of Cayuga and Lynne Garn of Brantford, sending cards at Valentine’s and every other occasion is just one of the ways they celebrate a lifelong friendship that is as strong today as when it began more than 70 years ago.

Marlene and Lynne first met as school girls in Hagersville. After elementary school they attended Hagersville Secondary School (HSS) and enjoyed the usual activities of the day, including dances at Hagersville Teen Town and Summer Gardens in Port Dover. They hung out at local restaurants like Enzo’s or The Rascal’s in Mount Hope and, of course, they stayed over at each other’s houses.
